Aviation Awareness Week observed
The Airport Authority of India launched Aviation Awareness Week between November 23, 2020 and November 27, 2020. The week is observed in all airports and also in locations managed by the Airport Authority of India.
Aviation awareness week is being celebrated to raise awareness on aviation safety. The Airport Authority of India during the celebration will undertake employment engagement programs. The week celebrations stress on the fact that safety preventive measures should be adopted at every airport premises irrespective of traffic volume. This is being done as the wildlife or bird menace has increased around airports.
The week celebrations will also stress on the long term objective of zero fatality by 2030 as envisaged by the International Civil Aviation organisation. The objective was introduced under the Global aviation safety plan.
Civil Aviation in India
According to CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate), the number of passengers in the civil aviation sector were 158 million in 2016-17. It has increased to 204 million in the year 2018-19. It includes both domestic and international passengers. The domestic passenger traffic has increased by 10% between 2007 and 2017. On the other hand, International passenger traffic has increased by 8.07%.
National Civil Aviation policy 2016
The policy aims to make flying affordable to every Indian citizen. The regional connectivity scheme being implemented under the policy aims to enhance air travel in the unconnected and underserved regions of the country.
International Civil Aviation organisation
The organisation is a specialised agency of the United Nations. It was formed in 1947. The organisation is responsible to develop international air transport. The headquarters of the organisation is located in Quebec, Canada.
