Average Monthly Income per Agricultural Household less than Rs. 6500: Govt.

As per Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar the average monthly income per agricultural household from all sources is less than Rs. 6,500. The data was provided by government in written reply to Lok Sabha.

Govt. claims based on: Latest available estimates provided by government of average income per agricultural household in country are based on Situation Assessment Survey of Agricultural Households conducted by National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), the nodal agency for conducting surveys and collecting data, during its 70th round (January 2013-December 2013). As per these survey results, average monthly income per agricultural household from all sources is estimated to be Rs. 6,426.

Inter-Ministerial Committee 2016: Since 2013 NSSO has not conducted any survey on income per agricultural household thereby in April 2016 government constituted an Inter-Ministerial Committee to examine issues relating to doubling of farmers income and to recommend strategies to achieve the same. This committee submitted its Report to Central government in September 2018.

Methodology The Committee considered estimates of agricultural households income obtained from NSSO 70th round unit-level data as base level income and it kept 2015-16 as base year. This is how it derived income for base year at both current and constant prices for major states and major size-classes.
