Australia’s oldest intact rock art

Australia’s oldest intact rock art was recently discovered in Kimberley region at the western part of the continent. This 2-metre long artwork depicted the figure of a kangaroo. It is estimated to have been created over 17,000 years ago by Aboriginal artists. It is a challenge to accurately date these paintings since datable pigments are rarely used. The age of the painting was calculated using ancient mud wasp nets.
