Australia New Zealand to jointly host FIFA Women World Cup 2023

On June 26, 2020, Australia and New Zealand won joint bid to host FIFA Women World Cup 2023.

Highlights

The winning bid of Australia and New Zealand had suggested 12 cities. This included 7 in Australia and 5 in New Zealand. The sites also included main stadium that was used for 2000 Sydney Olympics.

After its huge success in 2019, FIFA Women’s world cup intends to establish its independence from men and also prove that it is equally attractive and has same potential commercially.

The bid quoted by Australia and New Zealand was rated as low risk. It scored 4.1. The bid quoted by Colombia had the highest risk and scored 2.8.

Significance

This is the first time FIFA Women’s World Cup is being hosted in Australia and New Zealand. Around 32 teams are to participate and is the first time, so many teams are participating in the world cup.

FIFA Women World Cup

The FIFA Women World Cup takes place once in four years just like that of the FIFA Men World Cup. The previous FIFA Women World Cup was held in France in 2019.
