Atma Nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rojgar Abhiyan launched
On June 26, 2020, PM Modi launched Atma Nirbhar Uttar Pradesh Rojgar Abhiyan. UP is one of the 6 states chosen where the Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan is to be implemented. The other 5 states include MP, Maharashtra, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand.
Highlights
There are 30 lakh migrant workers in UP that have returned to the state. Around 31 districts have more than 25,000 returnee migrant workers. Of these 31 districts, 5 are Aspirational Districts.
Background
The COVID-19 has had adverse impact on workforce of the country. The challenge of containing the spread of the virus compounded the need to provide livelihood to the migrant workers. The GoI hence announced Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan which will create employment and also develop rural infrastructure.
The Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan allocated Rs 20,000 crore package to stimulate various sectors in the country. This included Agriculture, MSME, fisheries, diary, animal husbandry, MGNREGA, etc.
