Atal Innovation Mission

The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) is a flagship initiative of the NITI Aayog.

This aims to promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the country and create an environment for the same.

Objectives of AIM

The objective of AIM is to create, develop and promote an ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship across the country which will exist at school, university, research institutions, MSME and industry levels and will aim for their mutual collaboration and support.

The functioning of the AIM

• The AIM aims to promote active collaboration between the Government, Academia, Industry, Individuals and Societal focused NGOs enable a vibrant ecosystem of innovation. For this, it has set up one of the largest Mentoring networks in India (referred to as Mentor India).
• The Mentor India community comprises of the professionals and industry community who will help mentor students at Atal Tinkering Labs and AIC Incubators/startups.

Why is it in the news?

The AIM has launched a new community innovation program which aims to encourage the spirit of innovation in the country.

The initiative aims to make the innovation ecosystem more socially inclusive and also aims to ensure equitable distribution of infrastructure for innovation all across the country.

The mission aims to target the underserved and currently unserved regions in the various Tier 1 or Metro cities, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

It will also aim to establish centers in the Smart Cities, Aspirational districts, North-East, Jammu and Kashmir as well as all the socially backward regions of India.
