PM Modi Lays Foundation for Ken-Betwa River Linking Project
The recent 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was marked by development initiatives in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated several projects, emphasizing good governance and the importance of public service.
Key Projects Launched
Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation for very important projects, including the Ken-Betwa River Linking Project and Madhya Pradesh’s first floating solar power plant. The Daudhan Dam was also included in the launch. These initiatives aim to enhance water supply, irrigation, and renewable energy in the region.
Modi brought into light the necessity of effective governance to ensure that government benefits reach the citizens. He cited successful schemes like PM Kisan Samman Nidhi and the One Nation, One Ration Card initiative. These programs leverage technology to streamline access to government services.
Addressing Water Scarcity
The Prime Minister reflected on the historical water scarcity in Bundelkhand and acknowledged the prior government’s failures in addressing it. He reiterated the importance of water resources as envisioned by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and noted that Vajpayee’s administration had initiated steps to tackle these issues.
Modi discussed the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s commitment to water conservation, including the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide tap water to 12 crore families. He mentioned training women to test water quality and promoting micro-irrigation projects to support sustainable water management.
Tourism Development Efforts
Madhya Pradesh’s potential as a tourism hub was brought into light, with Modi praising its rich heritage and natural beauty. The government has introduced schemes like Swadesh Darshan to promote tourism and is developing circuits connecting cultural and natural sites, thereby boosting local economies.
The Prime Minister noted that tourism encourages job creation and enhances demand for local products and services. The construction of a world-class international convention centre in Khajuraho aims to further attract domestic and international visitors, contributing to the region’s economic growth.
