Assam Launches Orunodoi 2.0

Assam has introduced an upgraded version of its poverty alleviation scheme called Orunodoi 2.0. The new scheme was launched with the distribution of Orunodoi Cards to additional beneficiaries, marking a significant step in empowering disadvantaged sections of society.

Distribution of Orunodoi Cards

  • Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma personally initiated the distribution process of Orunodoi Cards to new beneficiaries.
  • The event took place in Kokrajhar and included the presentation of cards to some of the newly enrolled beneficiaries.

Expanding Beneficiary Base

  • Orunodoi 2.0 aims to extend the reach of the poverty alleviation program.
  • Approximately 7.30 lakh new beneficiaries will be included in the program, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 26 lakh.
  • In Kokrajhar District alone, 21 thousand new beneficiaries will be added to Orunodoi 2.0.

Empowering Women Through Direct Benefit Transfer

  • The government had previously fulfilled its promise of incorporating less privileged women into the Orunodoi program.
  • As part of Orunodoi 2.0, 26 lakh women will receive Rs. 1250 per month, with the funds being directly credited to their bank accounts on the 10th of every month.

Enhancing Support for Basic Needs

  • The government has increased the amount provided through Orunodoi to help beneficiaries meet a wider range of essential needs.
  • This expansion of financial assistance is intended to alleviate the challenges stemming from poverty and deprivation.

Future Expansion of Beneficiaries

  • Chief Minister Sarma announced plans to further enlarge the Orunodoi program.
  • An additional five lakh beneficiaries will be added to the program in the near future, making it the largest direct fund transfer scheme in the state.
