Assam becomes India’s first state to produce over 500 Million Kg Tea for consecutive 2 years

With a production of 589 million Kgs in 2011 and 588 million Kgs 2012, Assam has become the first state in India to produce over 500 million kilogram tea for two years in a row.

• The North East Tea Association, a premium body of the tea planters held that over Rs 7500s crore rupee turn over was recorded in Assam tea sector last year.
• Around 7 lakh workers are engaged in the tea sector of which 50% are women.
