Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav – A Cultural Celebration

Northeast India is a vibrant region known for its rich culture and traditions and the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav held from December 6th to 8th, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, Delhi, aims to celebrate the diversity of the eight states of Northeast India.

Festival Inauguration

The Prime Minister inaugurated the festival on December 6th, which will showcase the cultural heritage of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, and Sikkim.

Symbolism of Ashtalakshmi

The term ‘Ashtalakshmi’ represents the eight forms of prosperity associated with the goddess Lakshmi. These forms include Prosperity, Opulence, Purity, Wealth, Knowledge, Duty, Agriculture, and Animal Husbandry.

Cultural Highlights

Visitors can experience the region’s arts, crafts, music, and economic growth. The festival will feature over 250 artisans displaying handicrafts and handlooms. There will also be cultural performances, including traditional dances and music.

The Mahotsav will promote sectors like textiles, tourism, and traditional crafts, which aims to highlight how improved infrastructure is creating new business opportunities.

Technical Sessions and Discussions

The event will include sessions on women’s leadership, IT, energy, and healthcare. An Investors Roundtable will explore opportunities in handicrafts and agriculture. Buyer-Seller Meets will promote business partnerships. A Design Conclave and Fashion Show will blend traditional and modern fashion, showcasing the region’s creativity.

Infrastructure and Investment
