Ariarne Titmus Sets World Record in Women’s 200m Freestyle
Ariarne Titmus broke the world record in the women’s 200-meter freestyle on June 12 at Brisbane’s Chandler Aquatic Center, which was part of Australia’s Olympic swimming tryouts. She clocked an impressive time of 1 minute, 52.23 seconds, surpassing the previous record of 1:52.85 set by Mollie O’Callaghan at last year’s world championships. Because of this, Titmus holds the world record in both the 200-meter and 400-meter freestyle events.
Context & Significance of the Record
This is a big deal for Titmus because it shows how consistent she is in freestyle swimming. She won both of the mid-distance freestyle events. She set a new record at the Australian titles that was almost two-thirds of a second faster than the old record. This clearly shows how good she is, and it’s even more impressive because it happened before the Paris Olympics, which start on July 26.
Training and Preparation
Titmus and O’Callaghan are both trained by Dean Boxall, focused on their race lengths. Titmus tells her that she should focus on her performance instead of those of her rivals and keep her eyes on the clock instead of the person who holds the current record. Her latest performances show that this way of thinking has worked.
