Every year World Earth Day is celebrated on April 22. The day is celebrated to demonstrate environmental protection. It is being celebrated since 1970.

Highlights
On the World Earth Day, 2016, the famous Paris Agreement was signed by more than 120 countries. The day was proposed by peace activist John McConnell in 1970. The day is celebrated by World Earth Day Network. Around 193 countries join the celebrations.
50th Anniversary
This year the 50th anniversary of World Earth Day is celebrated through digital mobilizations. The following are the five components that are to be included in the celebrations
- Citizen Science: This year around 1 billion data points are being engaged to measure water quality, air quality, human health and pollution. In order to achieve this “Earth Challenge 2020” is being organized.
- Advocacy: The World Earth Day is to mobilize actions and amplify links between technologies and climate prosperity.

- Education
- Programmes for Artists
Paris Agreement
Paris Agreement was signed within the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate change (UNFCCC). The main aim of the agreement was to keep the increase in global temperature below 2 degree Celsius as compared to that of the pre industrial levels. And to make efforts to limit the increase to 1.5 degree Celsius.
