‘APNA UREA- SonaUgle’ launched by Union Minister
The Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, D.V Sadananda Gowda on Friday, 17th January 2020 launched a brand of the Joint venture of the state-owned Maharatna Public Sector Undertakings- NTPC, IOCL, CIL-named Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL), brand named ‘APNA UREA-SonaUgle’ and also unveiled the logo of the company. With the objective of making India self-reliant in Urea, under the brand APNA UREA-SonaUgle, HURL will be reviving five major sick/shutdown fertilizer plants as per the directions of the Prime Minister of India. The five units are at Barauni (Bihar), Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Sindri (Jharkhand)-all three undertaken by HURL and production is expected to be commenced in February 2021 in Gorakhpur while May 2021 for the units of Bihar and Jharkhand, the other two units at Talcher and Ramagundam will be undertaken soon by HURL. The Minister addressed the launch event and informed that currently, India is importing 70-80 LMT (Lakh Metric Tonne) of fertilizers every year, once the five units start commencing, India will be producing Urea up to 63.5 LMT.
