APEDA signs pact with Lulu to promote millets in GCC

The FSSAI recently released standards for millets; GoI is to promote millets in the brand name “Shree Anna”; millet production is to be boosted in the country, 2023 was made the International Millets Year by UN. More and more plans are coming up in promoting millet. One such is the recent MoU signed by APEDA with the LULU group. Under the agreement, APEDA will promote millets in GCC.

What is the plan?

The APEDA operating under the Ministry of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the LULU group of Dubai to promote millets in GCC countries. The GCC countries are Bahrain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait. The plan is to promote millet products in these countries during the international millet year 2023.

APEDA is the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority.

Role of APEDA

APEDA will assist the millet manufacturers to send product samples to LULU supermarkets. The supermarket will showcase the millet of India. This includes “READY TO EAT” and “READY TO SERVE” millets.

LULU Group

The Headquarters of LULU is in Abu Dhabi, UAE. It is an MNC with more than 232 stores operating in GCC alone. Basically, they do a supermarket kind of business.
