Apache attack helicopters
The Indian Army had ordered six Apache Helicopters with the Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL). So far, six of these helicopters have been delivered and five more are being prepared. The order was placed under the GoI’s Aatma Nirbhar Bharat initiative. The initiative aims to make India self-reliant. And therefore, GoI placed its order with the Hyderabad-based TBAL. The TBAL is a joint venture established to make India a global defense exporter.
India’s role in Apache helicopter
Today, after the establishment of TBAL, every Apache helicopter sole in the world has its origin in India. This is because the venture supplies secondary structures required in the production of the helicopters.
Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited
Apart from Apache helicopters, the TBAL also manufactures fin structures of Boeing 737.
TATA in airspace
TATA is planning to produce EADS CASA C 295 aircraft in Vadodara. These are transport aircraft. GoI sold Air India to TATA under its disinvestment plan. TATA has now merged Air India with Vistara Airlines. Vistara Airlines is a joint venture of TATA and Singapore Airlines.
Apache helicopter
It is an attack helicopter with a Turbo Shaft engine. It is armed with chain guns. The helicopter has night vision systems and target acquisition systems. Also, it can carry missiles and rocket pods. The Apache model was designed and developed by the Hughes helicopter for the US Army.
Apache helicopters in Indian Air Force
Indian Air Force inducted these helicopters in 2019. They were first deployed in Pathankot Air Force Station. They replaced the MI-35 helicopters. India bought MI-35 from Russia.
