Andhra Pradesh’s New Semiconductor Policy 2024-29

The Andhra Pradesh government has introduced the Semiconductor & Display Fab Policy 2024-29, which aims to attract investments in semiconductor and display manufacturing. It also covers related sectors like Outsourced Assembly & Testing (OSAT) and assembly, Testing, Marking, and Packing (ATMP). The policy is effective for five years, starting from November 14, 2024.

Objectives of the Policy

The primary goal is to build a robust semiconductor ecosystem. The policy seeks to align semiconductor manufacturing with the broader electronics industry. It aims to enhance the state’s competitiveness in the global market.

Financial Incentives Offered

The policy includes subsidies for projects approved under the India Semiconductor Mission. Additional incentives are available for large-scale projects. This financial support is designed to encourage investment in semiconductor facilities.

Infrastructure Development Plans

To facilitate growth, the government plans to develop necessary infrastructure through public-private partnerships (PPP). This includes constructing clean rooms, free trade warehouse zones, and reliable power supply. The infrastructure will also encompass stormwater drains, roads, and employee facilities.

Importance of Clean Rooms

Clean rooms are essential for semiconductor manufacturing. They provide controlled environments necessary for high-quality production. The cost of establishing clean rooms is important, requiring specialized machinery and strict protocols.

Job Creation Potential

The policy aims to generate high-quality jobs over the next 5-10 years. It is expected to boost employment in semiconductor and electronics sectors. The government’s focus is on creating sustainable job opportunities.

Link to Electronics Manufacturing Policy

This policy complements the earlier Electronics Manufacturing Policy 2024-29. Both initiatives aim to enhance the electronics sector in Andhra Pradesh. The semiconductor industry is critical for producing electronic circuit boards.

Important Facts for Exams:

  1. OSAT – Outsourced Assembly & Testing refers to the process of delegating assembly and testing of electronic components to external firms. It enhances efficiency and reduces costs in manufacturing.
  2. ATMP – Assembling, Testing, Marking, and Packing is important step in semiconductor production. This process ensures that products meet quality standards before reaching the market. It is vital for product reliability.
  3. India Semiconductor Mission – This initiative aims to promote semiconductor manufacturing in India. It offers financial support and incentives to attract investments. This mission seeks to boost the local semiconductor ecosystem.
