Ancient Branch of Nile River Uncovered Near Egyptian Pyramids
A recent study has revealed an important new fact about how the ancient Egyptian pyramids were built. Scientists discovered proof of a previously hidden branch of the Nile River that was about 64 kilometers long and flowed near the Giza pyramid complex and more than 30 other pyramids. That the ancient Egyptians were able to do such amazing things with logistics over 4,700 to 3,700 years ago has been greatly improved by this finding.
Historical Context
The pyramids are mostly found in the sandy parts of the Nile Valley, close to Memphis, which was the old Egyptian capital. The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the most important pyramids. Memphis was a center of culture when the pyramids were being built. The river probably made it easier to build these huge buildings by making it possible to move huge stone blocks, which has been thought for a long time but hasn’t been proven until now.
Methodology of Discovery
An international group, led by Eman Ghoneim from the University of North Carolina Wilmington, used radar satellite images to find and map the river branch, which showed how close it was to the pyramid sites. Radar technology was very important because it went through the desert and showed secret landforms, such as the buried watercourse that is now called Ahramat, which means “pyramids” in Arabic.
Implications of the Findings
The finding not only shows how carefully the pyramids were placed, but it may also change how we think about ancient Egyptian engineering and logistics. By proving that there is a nearby waterway, researchers can get a better idea of how big and complicated these ancient wonders were to build.
More About the Great Pyramid of Giza
- Construction Period:The Great Pyramid of Giza was built between 2580 and 2560 B.C., during the rule of Pharaoh Khufu.
- Size and Age: The pyramid was 146.6 meters (481 feet) tall when it was first built, making it the world’s tallest man-made building for more than 3,800 years.
- Materials and Weight: The pyramid is made up of about 2.3 million blocks of limestone and granite, and each one weighs about 2.5 tons.
- Alignment: The Great Pyramid is almost perfectly lined up with true north, with a difference of only 3/60th of a degree.
- Internal Temperature: Inside the pyramid, the temperature stays the same at about 20°C, which is about the same as the normal temperature of the Earth.
- Engineering and Design: The pyramid is a work of complex engineering, and the “Grand Gallery,” a long, narrow passageway built with great care that we still don’t fully understand, is one example.
