Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and Rs 18,800 crore-worth Projects Inaugurated

On October 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the third edition of the Global Maritime India Summit (GMIS) 2023. During the event, he dedicated 21 projects worth Rs 18,800 crore to the nation and unveiled the Amrit Kaal Vision 2047—a strategic blueprint for the Indian maritime blue economy. These initiatives aim to enhance port facilities, promote sustainable practices, and encourage international collaboration in the maritime sector.

Key Projects Inaugurated

  1. Haridaspur-Paradip Rail Line (Rs 3,200 crore):
    • Purpose: To reduce congestion and benefit the people of Kendrapara.
  2. Fifth Oil Berth at Marine Oil Terminal, Jawahar Dweep (Rs 1,046 crore):
    • Purpose: To improve ship turnaround time and accommodate larger vessels.
  3. Special Economic Zone at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) (Rs 565 crore):
    • Additional Investment: Rs 4,000 crore.
    • Employment Generation: Expected to create 57,000 direct jobs.
  4. Fourth Container Terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (Rs 3,196 crore):
    • Purpose: To enhance container cargo facilitation and reduce congestion.
  5. Deepening and Optimization of Inner Harbour Facilities at Paradip Port Authority (Rs 3,004 crore).
  6. Conversion of Ninth Berth to a Container Terminal at V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust (Rs 434 crore).
  7. Rejuvenation of Khidderpore Docks (Dock 1-West) at Syama Prasad Mukherjee Port Authority (SMPA) (Rs 181 crore).
  8. New Navigation Lock Gate at Farakka, West Bengal (Rs 375 crore):
    • Under the Inland Waterways Authority of India.
