All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna (AIIMS Patna) is a premier medical institute located in Patna, Bihar, India. It is one of the eight All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) established by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). AIIMS Patna aims to provide quality tertiary healthcare, medical education, and research facilities in the region.
History
The foundation stone for AIIMS Patna was laid by the then Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, on 3rd July 2013. The institute became functional from September 2012, with the commencement of the first batch of MBBS students. Initially, the classes were held at the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital, Patna, until the construction of the new campus was completed.
Campus and Infrastructure
AIIMS Patna is spread over a land area of 134 acres in Phulwarisharif, about 8 km from the Patna Railway Station and 12 km from the Jai Prakash Narayan International Airport. The institute has a state-of-the-art campus with modern facilities for patient care, teaching, and research.
The hospital complex consists of a 960-bed teaching hospital, which includes specialty and super-specialty departments, a trauma centre, an ayush wing, and a community medicine department. The institute also has a well-equipped library, lecture theatres, laboratories, and hostels for students and resident doctors.
Academics
AIIMS Patna offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in various medical disciplines. The institute currently offers the following courses:
