All about Richard Attenborough

A well known actor-cum-director Richard Samuel Attenborough died at the age of 90 on August 24, 2014.

Career

He had served in Royal Air Force during WWII before taking on acting as a lifetime career. Acting started for him in theatre with his little shows in Leicester’s Little Theatre. `As an artist he had donned many hats of actor, director, producer and an entrepreneur too. He was most acclaimed for his role in 1982 movie “Gandhi” which had won eight Academy Awards which also contained the best picture and best director.
Apart from that, he was also widely known for his roles in Brighton Rock, The Great Escape, 10 Rillington Place and Jurassic Park. Richard was also honored with four BAFTA Awards and four Golden Globe Awards. He also served as the President of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).
He started his production career under the banner of Beaver Films, his own production house which he began with Bryan Forbes.
He was also honored with a doctorate of Drama from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow in 2008. He was given an endless tribute by the most revered Pinewood Studios by naming a purpose-built film and television stage after him, “The Richard Attenborough Stage” in 2012.

Personal Life

Richard’s father was an educationist and was the principal of University College, Leicester. He had two younger brothers. He married actress Sheila Sim in 1945. He had published an informal autobiography in association with his long-term friend Diana Hawkins in 2008, under the title, “Entirely Up to You, Darling.
