AKASH MK -1S Successfully Test Fired
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully test fired AKASH-MK-1S missile from Chandipur, Odhisa. AKASH Mk1S is a surface to air missile which can neutralize advanced aerial targets. It is an upgrade of existing AKASH missile with indigenous Seeker.
AKASH Missile System
Akash missile is a medium range Surface to Air Missile with multi-target engagement capability. It was developed as part of the Integrated Guided-Missile Development Programme along with Nag, Agni, Trishul, and Prithvi missiles.
Akash is a supersonic missile with a range of around 25 km and up to the altitude of 18,000m. It uses high-energy solid propellant for the booster and ramjet-rocket propulsion for the sustainer phase.
Akash Missiles were formally inducted into the Indian Air Force on July 10, 2015, and in Indian Army on May 5, 2015. Several variants of Akash are being developed by DRDO with improved accuracy and higher ranges.
