AI- driven Start-Up for Water Purification
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launched Artificial Intelligence (AI) driven Start-Up for water purification through innovative technology.
Key Points
- AI driven start-up for water purification has been developed by an IIT Alumni.
- The start-up was launched with the aim of providing clean drinking water at a lesser price, as opposed the market price.
Signing of a MoU
The Technology Development Board (a statutory body of Science & Technology department) also signed a MoU with M/s Swajal Water Private Limited which is a tech Start Up company founded by ex-IITians. The company focuses on innovative technologies for making reliable clean drinking water accessible to communities at affordable prices. Their project on IoT has enabled the use of “Solar Water Purification Unit” for villages, slums, and High Utility Areas.
Who extended financial support?
Financial support was extended to “Swajal” by Technology Development Board.

Ministry of science and Technology is committed towards reaching to potential small and viable start-ups with skill and talent pool. However, they lacking resources.
Way Ahead to clean drinking water
- According to union minister, Centre’s initiatives such as National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) and Jal Jeevan Mission has been contributing towards clean drinking water objective. But Private Sector should also come forward with state-of-the-art tech solutions for covering around 14 Crore households where clean drinking water has not yet reached.
- Within two years of the launch of Jal Jeevan Mission, more than four crore families are getting water from taps.
- Heli-borne survey technology– It was launched for groundwater management. The technology was developed by CSIR-NGRI Hyderabad in collaboration with the union minister for Jal Shakti. States of Rajasthan, Punjab, Gujarat, and Haryana are being taken up for this survey.
- Clairvoyant– This system uses artificial intelligence for optimizing purification systems and predicting future breakdowns. Thus, it allows to manage system remotely, update, and repair each system in real time.
- Water ATMS– Clean drinking water solutions in Water ATMS have also been developed. It combines Internet of Things technology with solar energy for providing clean drinking water.
