ADIP scheme: First Distribution of Assistive aids to Divyangjan

On June 15, 2020, Government of India organized the first ever ADIP camp. The camp was conducted to distribute free assistive aids to Divyangjans under the ADIP scheme.

Highlights

The first camp to distribute free assistive aids was organized at Firozpur district of Punjab. The camp was organized by ALIMCO (Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India) operating under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The ADIP camps have so far created 10 Guinness Book of World Records. The Ministry has issued unique ID cards for the Divyangjans. So far 31 lakhs of such unique ID cards have been distributed.

About the Camp

The camp was held in the decentralized pattern of distribution. Around 95 beneficiaries were provided with assistive appliances in more than 166 categories. This included motorized tricycles, walking sticks, crutches, wheel chairs, smart phones. Rollators, hearing aids, artificial limbs, callipers, etc.

ALIMCO

The ALIMCO manufactures aids and appliances to meet the requirements of persons with disabilities. Currently, there are 6 ALIMCO centres located in the country. They are located in Bhubaneshwar, Bengaluru, Jabalpur, Chanalon (Punjab), Faridabad and in Ujjain. It started manufacturing in 1976.

ADIP scheme

The ADIP scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. ADIP aims to provide Assistance to Disabled Persons for purchasing and fitting of aids. In order to become a beneficiary under the scheme, a person should be an Indian citizen. He or she should hold 40% disablement certificate. His monthly source of income should not exceed Rs 20,000 per month.
