Abhilasha Kumari sworn in as first women Chief Justice of Manipur HC

Abhilasha Kumari was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court. She was administered oath of office by Governor Najma Heptulla at the Raj Bhavan. With this, she became first women and third full-time Chief Justice of Manipur High Court.

She was earlier the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court.  She is the daughter of the former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. She is alumnus of Delhi University and had obtained law degree from Himachal Pradesh University.
She had enrolled as an advocate in 1984 and practised in Himachal Pradesh High Court in cases concerning civil, criminal, consumer affairs, industrial insurance and company affairs. She was designated as additional advocate general for Himachal Pradesh before being elevated as Gujarat High Court judge in December 2005.

Manipur High Court

The seat of the Manipur High Court is at Imphal, the capital of Manipur. It was established in March 2013 after making suitable amendments in the Constitution of India and North-Eastern Areas (Re-organisation) Act, 1971.  The first Chief Justice is Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre. Prior to its establishment, a bench of Gauhati High Court had jurisdiction over the state of Manipur.
