Abdelmadjid Tebboune elected as the President of Algeria

The former Prime Minister of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune was elected as the new President of Algeria. Abdelmadjid Tebboune has previously served as the Prime Minister of Algeria for a period of 3 months from May 2017 to August 2017. The Algerian election authority informed on Friday, 13th December that Tebboune won the election with 58.15% of the total votes. He will be replacing Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who served as the President of Algeria for nearly 20 years, from 1999 to April 2019.
Bouteflika resigned on 2nd April this year following months of mass protests that started on 16th February 2019, known by the name of the Revolution of Smiles or Hirak Movement or popularly known in the international media as the 2019 Algeria Protests.
The 2019 Presidential election was postponed from 18th April 2019 to 4 July 2019, which has also postponed citing lack of candidates by the Algerian Constitutional Council, and finally the largest country by the landmass of Africa continent, Algeria voted on Thursday 12th December.
