B S Bassi, the former Delhi Police commissioner, has been appointed as the new member of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), a Constitutional post. He will have tenure of about 5 years till February 2021. Bassi is a 1977-batch IPS officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre. The UPSC is headed by a chairman besides maximum of ten members. Under the Constitution, a member of the UPSC can have a maximum of six years tenure or till he attains age of 65 years.
