Telangana’s first food park inaugurated in Nizamabad district
Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated Telangana’s first food park at Lakkampally village in Nandipet Mandal of Nizamabad district, Telangana. It has been set up at a cost of ₹109 under Centre’s Food Park Scheme and is promoted by Smart Agro Food Park.
About Mega Food Park
It has been set up on 78 acre of land. It is estimated to provide direct and indirect employment opportunities to 50,000 youth and benefit one lakh farmers. It will generate additional investment of about ₹250 crore will be generated with setting up of 22 food processing units in the park, generating a turnover of about ₹14,000 crore.
About Mega Food Park Scheme
It is being implemented by Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries to give major boost to food processing sector by adding value and reducing food wastage at each stage of the supply chain with particular focus on perishables. Projects under this scheme have been merged under Ministry of Food Processing’s comprehensive flagship scheme-‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana’.
Objective: To create modern infrastructure facilities for food processing along value chain from farm to market through cluster based approach with strong forward and backward linkages.
Cluster approach: It is based on “Cluster” approach and envisages creation of state of art support infrastructure in well-defined agri/horticultural zone for setting up of modern food processing units along with well-established supply chain.
Implementing agencies of Mega Food Park project: It is implemented by Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) which is Body Corporate registered under the Companies Act. State Government, State Government entities and Cooperatives are not required to form separate SPV for implementation of this project.
Funding: Central Government provides financial assistance upto Rs. 50 Crore per Mega Food Park project.
Mega food park Project Components: It typically consists of (i) supply chain infrastructure including, (ii) collection centres, (iii) primary processing centres (PPC), (iv) central processing centres (CPC), (v) cold chain.
