Hashim Thaci has been elected as the new President of the Republic of Kosovo. He is the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK). He was a guerrilla leader during a conflict that led to Kosovo, a mainly ethnic Albanian province declaring independence from Serbia in 2008.
