According to the 2015 Human Development Report (HDR) released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), India’s rank on Human Development Index (HDI) rose by a notch in 2014 — to 130 th from 131st a year earlier. The list is topped by Norway followed by Australia, Switzerland, Denmark and Netherlands. The Human Development Index (HDI) is an average measure of basic human development achievements in a country. It is a summary measure for assessing long-term progress in three basic dimensions of human development – a long and healthy life, access to knowledge and a decent standard of living.
