B S Yeddyurappa sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka
State BJP President B.S. Yediyurappa (76) took oath as 31st Chief Minister of Karnataka by Governor Vajubhai Vala. His appointment comes 3 days after collapse of Congress-JD(S) government. He is set to take floor test on 31 July 2019 to prove his majority.
This is for 4th time Yediyurappa’s is being sworn as Chief Minister however he has never completed full term as CM.
Key Highlights
Swearing in came after weeks of political drama in Karnataka state politics and legal battle triggered by resignation of 15 rebel Congress and JDS MLAs that led to the fall of Congress-JD(S) coalition government led by HD Kumaraswamy as Chief Minister.
He was the lone person to be sworn in and is expected to decide on members of his Cabinet after consulting party president Amit Shah.
Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa would call Karnataka assembly session for moving motion of confidence and passage of finance bill on 29 July and legislative council would begin its proceedings on July 30.
Announcements Made:
After a Cabinet meeting, he announced loan waiver of ₹100 crore borrowed by weavers before 31 March 2019.
He also announced sops for farmers and weavers. It includes an additional sum of Rs.4,000 in 2 instalments would be given to farmers from State government under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PMKSM), which will take total benefit to Rs.10,000, including Rs.6,000 from Centre.
