The National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA) is located in the Pune University Campus and is part of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, India. .Recently, Indian astronomers working at the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics have discovered an extremely rare galaxy of gigantic size. Galaxies with an extreme large ‘radio size’ are called as giant radio galaxies. The galaxy is known by its scientific identification ‘J021659-44920’. The galaxy was discovered using the Giant Metre wave Radio Telescope (GMRT) located near Pune. The galaxy is located about 9 billion light years away and it emits powerful radio waves. The galaxy was caught in dying phase.
