RBI Wins Digital Transformation Award
Recently, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) received the Digital Transformation Award from Central Banking in London. The award specifically acknowledges RBI’s initiatives, Sarthi and Pravaah, which have modernised its operations.
About Sarthi and Pravaah
- Sarthi, launched in January 2023, digitises internal workflows at RBI. The name Sarthi means “charioteer” in Hindi. This system helps RBI employees store and share documents securely, making record-keeping easier and improving data analysis with reports and dashboards. It supports over 13,500 employees across more than 40 locations.
- Pravaah (means “smooth flow” in Hindi) followed in May 2024, focusing on external regulatory applications. It integrates seamlessly with Sarthi. This integration improves efficiency and transparency for over 70 regulatory applications.
Impact on Operations
The introduction of Sarthi and Pravaah has transformed RBI’s operational framework. The RBI reported an 80% increase in monthly applications since Pravaah’s launch. This shift has reduced delays associated with paper-based systems. The digital initiatives have streamlined submission processes and enabled real-time tracking for applicants and RBI managers.
Significance of the Award
The Digital Transformation Award puts stress on RBI’s advancements in reducing paper-based processes. These initiatives have enhanced efficiency and streamlined operations. The recognition marks a very important moment in RBI’s journey towards becoming one of the most digitally advanced central banks globally.
