Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0

The Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0 is cultural event aimed at strengthening the ties between Tamil Nadu and Kashi. It commenced on 15th February 2025, with a special train flagged off from Chennai. This event celebrates the contributions of Sage Agasthyar and coincides with the Maha Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj. The initiative is part of India’s broader cultural integration efforts.

Event Overview

Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0 is scheduled from 15th to 24th February 2025. It involves around 1080 delegates from Tamil Nadu, including students, teachers, farmers, professionals, and artists. The event is organised by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with other ministries and aims to celebrate the cultural and historical links between the two regions.

Thematic Focus

The theme for this edition is Maharishi Agasthyar, a revered figure in Tamil culture. The event will include exhibitions denoting his contributions to health, science, philosophy, and literature. Activities will also feature seminars, workshops, and book releases.

Delegate Composition

Delegates are categorised into five groups

  1. Students, Teachers, and Writers
  2. Farmers and Artisans
  3. Professionals and Small Entrepreneurs
  4. Women from Self-Help Groups
  5. Start-ups and Researchers

Additionally, 200 students of Tamil origin studying in various central universities are included to enhance cultural exchange.

Transport and Logistics

To facilitate the delegates, Southern Railway coordinated the transport from Tamil Nadu to Varanasi. The first group was flagged off by Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi, who also welcomed delegates with roses and delegate bags.

Historical Context

This is the third edition of Kashi Tamil Sangamam. Previous events were held in 2022 and 2023, with around 4000 delegates participating. The event has garnered interest and support from the public and various stakeholders.

Educational Integration

The programme aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, promoting the integration of traditional Indian knowledge systems with contemporary education. IIT Madras and Banaras Hindu University serve as the implementing agencies.

Community Engagement

Kashi Tamil Sangamam aims to encourage community engagement among scholars, artists, and students. It encourages sharing of knowledge and cultural practices, enhancing mutual understanding and respect between the two regions.
