Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently attended Christmas celebrations at the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) in New Delhi. This marked a historic first, as no Prime Minister had previously participated in such an event at the CBCI headquarters, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the CBCI.

Interaction with Christian Leaders

During the event, Modi engaged with prominent figures from the Christian community, including Cardinals and Bishops. He extended Christmas greetings and reflected on attending a previous celebration at Union Minister George Kurian’s residence.

The Prime Minister reminisced about past Christmas celebrations and his visit to Sacred Heart Cathedral during Easter. He acknowledged Cardinal George Koovakad’s elevation by Pope Francis and brought into light spiritually enriching meetings with the Pope and Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

Government’s Rescue Missions

Modi recounted the government’s successful rescue missions for Father Alexis Prem Kumar and Father Tom, emphasizing the emotional significance of these efforts. He stressed that the Government of India prioritises citizen safety globally, particularly during crises.

India’s Foreign Policy and Global Aid

The Prime Minister outlined India’s foreign policy, which balances national interests with human well-being. He noted India’s role in providing COVID-19 assistance to over 150 countries, earning gratitude from various nations.

Modi brought into light the teachings of Jesus Christ, advocating for love, harmony, and peace. He discussed India’s achievements over the last decade, including lifting 250 million people out of poverty and emerging as the fifth-largest economy.

He commended the empowerment of women in diverse fields, including entrepreneurship and the armed forces. Modi also addressed advancements in mobile and semiconductor manufacturing, which have attracted global attention.

Commitment to Social Service

The Prime Minister told the importance of caring for others, as taught in the Bible. He reiterated the government’s commitment to social service through education and healthcare initiatives.

Modi detailed initiatives aimed at improving citizens’ lives, such as housing for the poor and ensuring access to clean water. He praised the involvement of women and differently-abled individuals in national progress.

Vision for a Developed India

He expressed optimism that collective efforts would drive India’s continued progress. Modi concluded by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a hopeful Jubilee Year, reinforcing the shared goal of a developed India.
