India Ranks 39th in Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) 2024

The 2024 Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) by the World Economic Forum (WEF) ranked India 39th out of 119 countries, which marks a notable rise from its previous rank of 54th in 2021, which was later adjusted to 38th due to a change in WEF’s methodology.

Government Support for Tourism

The Ministry of Tourism plays an important role in enhancing tourism infrastructure, which provides financial assistance to state governments, union territories, and central agencies. This support is distributed through various schemes, including ‘Swadesh Darshan,’ which focuses on developing theme-based tourist circuits, and ‘PRASHAD,’ aimed at enhancing pilgrimage sites.

Medical Value Travel Initiatives

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has introduced the Advantage Healthcare India portal. This official platform serves international patients seeking medical care in India. It offers comprehensive information on wellness services and medical facilities, making it easier for patients to navigate healthcare options.

Key Tourism Development Schemes

The ‘Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development’ scheme is another initiative to boost tourism. It aims to improve facilities and services at key tourist destinations. These schemes collectively contribute to making India a more attractive destination for both leisure and medical tourism.

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, brought into light these developments in a recent statement. His remarks indicate the government’s commitment to promoting tourism and improving infrastructure across the nation.

International patients can access the Advantage Healthcare India portal at www.healinindia.gov.in. This resource is designed to facilitate medical tourism and provide vital information on available healthcare services in India.
