Uttarakhand’s Yoga Policy
Uttarakhand, known as Devbhoomi, is evolving into a major hub for yoga and aims to enhance its reputation as a global yoga destination, follows the successful launch of the AYUSH policy and aims to create job opportunities while promoting wellness.
Development of the Yoga Policy
The Uttarakhand government is drafting its first Yoga Policy, which is a response to the growing interest in yoga and wellness tourism. It is designed to attract national and international visitors to the state. The AYUSH department is leading the drafting process after extensive consultations.
The Yoga Policy will establish standards for yoga centers across the state. It will require centers to register and meet uniform guidelines. Additionally, the policy will incentivize the opening of new yoga institutions. This includes fee reimbursement for certified yoga courses.
Promotion of Rishikesh as a Yoga City
Rishikesh will be promoted as the Yoga City of the world. The government plans to develop yoga facilities in various districts, aims to enhance the overall infrastructure for yoga, naturopathy, and spirituality.
Once the draft is complete, the government will seek public suggestions for one month. Citizens, experts, and institutions will be invited to provide feedback. This collaborative approach aims to refine the policy before its finalisation.
Job Creation and Economic Growth
The Yoga Policy is expected to create numerous job opportunities in Uttarakhand. The establishment of Yoga Grams and Wellness Centres will provide employment for yoga trainers. This initiative will not only benefit the local economy but also enhance the state’s global profile.
The initiative has garnered enthusiasm from various stakeholders. Yogacharya Ganga Nandani and yoga ambassador Dilraj Preet Kaur express optimism about the policy. They believe it will position Uttarakhand as a premier destination for yoga practice and training.
