National Panchayat Awards 2024

The National Panchayat Awards 2024 honored 45 exemplary Panchayats, and took place on December 11, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, presided over by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. The Hon’ble Union Minister of Panchayati Raj, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also attended and the awards celebrated efforts in sustainable and inclusive rural development.

Awards Overview

The awards recognized achievements in poverty reduction, health, water conservation, sanitation, and climate sustainability. They illustrated the role of Panchayats in grassroots development. Tripura and Odisha received the highest accolades, with ₹46 crore awarded directly to winners.

Award Categories

The awards featured several categories, each focusing on specific development areas.

  • Carbon Neutral Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar

Panchayats from Maharashtra, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh were recognised for achieving net-zero carbon emissions. This category emphasised climate sustainability in rural governance.

  • Gram Urja Swaraj Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar

Awards were given to Panchayats from Maharashtra, Odisha, and Tripura for adopting renewable energy. This initiative brought into light sustainable energy practices at the grassroots level.

  • Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP)

Twenty-seven Panchayats from states like Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Kerala, and Maharashtra excelled in nine key areas. These included health, education, water, sanitation, and governance.

  • Panchayat Kshamta Nirmaan Sarvottam Sansthan Puraskar

Institutions from Kerala, Maharashtra, and Odisha were honoured for their support to Panchayats. Their efforts contributed to achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar

Nine Panchayats received recognition for their overall excellence. They implemented various SDG themes effectively.

These awards reflect the government’s dedication to empowering Panchayati Raj Institutions. They aim to inspire better governance, inclusive growth, and sustainable practices in rural India.
