Gaganyaan Mission Progress Update
Preparations for India’s Gaganyaan mission are advancing rapidly and the first uncrewed flight is set for late 2024. Key components have been delivered to the launch site in Sriharikota and the crew escape system is operational and ready for deployment.
Propulsion Systems Arrived
All propulsion systems for the human-rated launch vehicle are now in Sriharikota, which includes solid, liquid, and cryogenic stages. Each stage has undergone successful testing. The systems for the orbital module are nearing completion. Integration of the crew module and service module is ongoing. These modules are vital for astronaut support during the mission.
Crew Training Progress
Astronauts have completed two out of three semesters of training. Training includes various simulations and safety protocols. The first crewed mission is planned for late 2026. The Crew Escape System is designed for emergency ejections, was tested last year at an altitude of approximately 17 km. The system is now ready for the uncrewed flight and ground facilities are fully operational. The orbital module preparation centre is equipped for final checks. The astronaut training centre is ready for ongoing training sessions.
Mission Control Centre Development
The mission control centre is nearing completion. It will oversee all operations during the Gaganyaan mission. Ground stations for spacecraft tracking are also being finalised.
ISRO has partnered with the European Space Agency, which ensures ground support during the mission. Collaborative efforts enhance mission safety and success.
