RuTAG 2.0 Annual Review Meeting Highlights
The first annual review meeting of Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG) 2.0 occurred on December 5-6, 2024, at SKUAST in Srinagar, Kashmir. The meeting aimed to assess the progress and future directions of rural technology initiatives.
IoT-Enabled Fertigation System
Prof. Sood inaugurated an IoT-enabled fertigation system at SKUAST, which enhances the efficiency of water and fertiliser usage. It supports sustainable farming practices. Such innovations are crucial for modern agriculture.
The meeting hosted dignitaries, scientific leaders, and government officials. Attendees visited a Discovery Centre showcasing research advancements. They explored stalls featuring rural technologies developed by various RuTAG centres. This interaction encouraged knowledge-sharing and collaboration.
Launch of RuTAG Logo
Prof. Sood revealed the official RuTAG logo, signifies a unified identity for the initiative. It represents the commitment to empower rural communities through technology.
Presentations from RuTAG Centres
Seven RuTAG centres presented ongoing project updates. The centres included IIT Bombay, IIT Roorkee, IIT Guwahati, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, and ICAR-NAARM Hyderabad. These presentations brought into light advancements and innovative solutions.
Smart Village Centres Initiative
The meeting introduced the RuTAG Smart Village Centres initiative. This programme aims to transform villages into economic hubs. It focuses on affordable, locally tailored technologies to enhance rural livelihoods.
Discussions centred on improving designs and expanding technology applications. Participants planned the next steps for RuTAG 2.0. Prof. Sood emphasised the need for scaling technologies to improve rural living standards.
RuTAG’s Mission and Impact
RuTAG, established in 2004, addresses grassroots technology gaps. It promotes demand-driven innovations. Since April 2023, RuTAG 2.0 has prioritised commercialisation. The initiative benefits agriculture, textiles, water conservation, and healthcare, enhancing rural livelihoods and reducing labour efforts.
