Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced plans to establish drone stations across the state as part of a transformative project to enhance disaster management. Home Guards’ Raising Day Celebration
The 62nd Raising Day of the Home Guards was celebrated at a state level. This event recognised the vital role of Home Guards in disaster response. CM Sukhu praised their dedication and announced a month-long public awareness campaign. The focus will be on educating citizens about disaster preparedness.
Recent Disasters in Himachal Pradesh
The 2023 monsoon season brought severe disasters to the state. Over 23,000 houses were damaged, with losses exceeding ₹10,000 crore. Rescue teams performed commendably during incidents like the Manali cloudburst. They successfully evacuated 395 stranded tourists under challenging conditions.
The government has merged the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) with the Home Guards. This merger aims to enhance coordination and efficiency in disaster management. Training 70,000 civilians as civil defence volunteers is also planned. This initiative will prepare 1% of the population for emergencies.
Investment in Modern Equipment
