National Milk Day Observed on November 26
National Milk Day was celebrated on November 26, 2024, which took place at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi. It marked the 103rd birth anniversary of Dr. Verghese Kurien, known as the Father of the White Revolution in India. National Gopal Ratna Awards
The National Gopal Ratna Awards were presented during the celebration, which honour excellence in livestock and dairy. Categories included Best Dairy Farmer, Best Artificial Insemination Technician, and Best Dairy Cooperative. For the first time, awards were given to winners from the North Eastern Region. Awardees shared innovative practices in dairy farming.
Publications Launched
Two important publications were launched at the event. The Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics (BAHS) 2024 provides data on livestock trends. It aids in policymaking. A manual for identifying elite cows was also introduced. This manual focuses on enhancing the national dairy herd.
All-India Motor Rally
An All-India Motor Rally concluded at the event. Organised by Amul in collaboration with Bajaj Auto, the rally started on November 19 in Gujarat. Participants were welcomed by the Union Minister at the Manekshaw Centre.
The event featured two panel discussions. One discussed the role of women in the livestock and dairy sectors. It aimed to promote gender inclusion. The other focused on strengthening veterinary support systems for farmers. This is crucial for rural development.
