Dubai Aerial Taxi Vertiport Construction Begins

Dubai is advancing its transport infrastructure with the construction of its first aerial taxi vertiport. Announced by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, this innovative facility is located near Dubai International Airport. It reflects the city’s commitment to modernising urban mobility.

Project Overview

The vertiport spans 3,100 square meters. It aims to handle 42,000 landings annually. Additionally, it will accommodate 170,000 passengers each year. The project will launch in phases, with initial stations in Downtown, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah. Expected services will commence in 2026.

Launch Timeline

The first air taxi station is set to operate in the first quarter of 2026. Four strategic landing sites will be established across the city. This service promises to drastically reduce travel times. The journey from Dubai International Airport to Palm Jumeirah will shorten from over 45 minutes to just 10-12 minutes.

Collaboration and Management

The project involves collaboration with international operators. Joby Aviation will manage aircraft manufacturing and passenger operations. Skyports is tasked with designing, constructing, and operating the vertiport infrastructure. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will ensure governance and integration with other transport modes.

Aerial Taxi Specifications

The Joby S4 aerial taxi will serve as the primary transport mode. This vehicle features vertical take-off and landing capabilities. It is an eco-friendly option, producing zero emissions. The taxi offers safety, comfort, and speed, with a flight range of up to 161 kilometres. It can reach maximum speeds of 321 kilometres per hour. The design accommodates four passengers plus a pilot. Notably, it generates less noise than traditional helicopters.
