Japan’s Mount Fuji recently experienced its latest snowless period in 130 years. It is also known as Fuji-san. It is Japan’s highest mountain at 3,776 meters. It is located near the Pacific coast in Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectures, about 100 km southwest of Tokyo-Yokohama. Unlike other tall mountains, it stands alone and is not part of a larger range. Mount Fuji is a dormant stratovolcano with its last eruption in 1707, yet still considered active. Its iconic shape comes from basaltic lava flows, with a smooth slope and a summit crater. Its volcanic activity is due to the Pacific Plate sinking under the Philippine Plate.

The ‘Act4Dyslexia’ campaign recently illuminated prominent monuments in Delhi, including Rashtrapati Bhavan and Parliament, in red to raise awareness about dyslexia. This initiative, supported by UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) and ChangeInkk Foundation, highlights the challenges faced by individuals with learning disabilities, affecting about 20% of India’s population. The campaign aims to foster understanding and inclusivity, while also dispelling myths surrounding dyslexia, often mischaracterized as a “slow-learner syndrome.

The 9th Ayurveda Day is observed on October 29, 2024 (Dhanteras), in over 150 countries. Prime Minister Modi launched health projects worth ₹12,850 crore to mark the occasion. Ayurveda Day, started in 2016, is celebrated on Dhanvantari Jayanti, honoring Dhanvantari, the mythological physician of the gods. Ayurveda, meaning ‘Knowledge of Life,’ aims for holistic balance in body, mind, and spirit. The 2024 theme, “Ayurveda Innovations for Global Health,” focuses on promoting Ayurveda’s role in tackling global health issues.

Indonesia’s Marapi Volcano, one of its most active, recently erupted, sending thick ash clouds and covering nearby villages, though no casualties occurred. It is located in the Padang Highlands of western Sumatra, Indonesia. Marapi is part of the Pacific’s Ring of Fire, a seismically active zone. Marapi is the highest peak in the highlands, reaching 9,485 feet (2,891 meters) and has dense vegetation on its lower slopes.

Recently, Brazil decided not to formally join the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), seeking alternative collaborations with China while prioritizing its own infrastructure projects. Brazil becomes second BRICS country after India not to join BRI. The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), launched by China in 2013, aims to enhance global trade and economic connectivity through infrastructure development and investments in various countries. The BRI encompasses various sectors, including transportation, energy, and trade, and has faced scrutiny and resistance from several nations due to concerns over debt and sovereignty.
