IAF for first time successfully conducts online scheduled test for airmen recruitment

The Indian Air Force (IAF) for first successfully conducted scheduled test for airmen recruitment (STAR) online, taking forward Digital India Initiative of Government. This makes IAF first of any of three services to undertake selection tests online.

Key Facts

The first online examination of IAF was conducted successfully through computer based online tests in collaboration with Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) Pune. It was conducted at 439 centres spread over 102 cities across the country. This included over 100 centres in the North Eastern states, J&K and states which have limited representation in IAF.
The online test made it easier for candidates across country to appear for selection accommodating wider choice of candidates, without having to apply for early filtration necessary in earlier selection process. By conducting online tests, IAF stands to gain from larger pool of candidates to choose from, while offering level playing field to all eligible candidates.

Significance

The initiative is part of IAF’s policy to reach out to best talent to man and service technology intensive platforms that equips it. It will increase transparency and cost reduction and help IAF to reach out to the youth in remote corners of the country and help them participate in the selection.
