ITU Kaleidoscope 2024 Conference
The ITU Kaleidoscope 2024 academic conference began today at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. It coincides with the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly 2024 (WTSA-24). The theme for this year is “Innovation and Digital Transformation for a Sustainable World.” This conference will run for three days and focus on discussions about technologies shaping our digital landscape.
Participation and Submissions
This year saw a record number of submissions, totaling 142. Of these, 100 submissions came from India, while the remaining 42 were from other countries. The conference aims to bring together scholars, industry experts, and policymakers. They will explore how Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) can help achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Key Objectives
The conference will facilitate discussions on technological innovations. It will also address their implications for policy, regulation, and ethical frameworks. The aim is to encourage collaboration and debate on emerging trends that can lead to a sustainable digital transformation.
Opening Plenary Session
The opening session welcomed key dignitaries, including Seizo Onoe from the ITU and Dr. Neeraj Mittal from India’s Department of Telecommunications. They brought into light the importance of global collaboration in shaping standards and policies for emerging technologies. This session emphasised inclusivity, sustainability, and digital equity.
Publication Release
During the opening, a Coffee-Table Book titled “155—India and ITU” was launched. It reflects India’s role in the global telecommunication landscape. Dr. Mittal stressed the unity of diverse stakeholders, including universities and industry, to ensure sustainable connectivity for all.
Collaboration Between Academia and Industry
Both Dr. Mittal and Seizo Onoe stressed the importance of collaboration. They noted that academia and industry must work together in research and development. This partnership is vital for bringing innovations to market effectively.
Focus on Global Standardisation
Deb Kumar Chakrabarti from the National Communications Academy spoke on the need for impactful dialogue. He emphasised that technological innovation should benefit society as a whole. The discussions aim to drive innovation supporting the UN SDGs.
Key Sessions of Day 1
Day 1 featured technical sessions focusing on next-generation network architectures. Presentations included topics like dynamic inspection methodologies for network security and AI applications in agriculture. These innovations demonstrate the global research efforts in various technological domains.
Poster Sessions
Poster sessions provided a platform for networking and deeper discussions. Topics ranged from 6G networks to resilient telecommunications infrastructure for disaster management. Notable presentations included strategies for enhancing telecom infrastructure in response to natural disasters.
Advancements in 6G Technologies
The afternoon sessions delved into emerging network technologies. A talk was given on advancing 6G, covering key technologies like millimetre-wave and intelligent reflecting surfaces. These technologies are expected to shape the future of mobile networks.
Quantum-Resilient Encryption
Another highlight was a presentation on quantum-resistant encryption. This topic is increasingly important for securing communication infrastructure against future threats. The discussion underscored the relevance of quantum-safe encryption in today’s digital landscape.
