India to Establish Centre of Excellence for Ayurvedic Research
A new Centre of Excellence in Ayurveda Research will be set up at the CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST) in Pappanamcode, Kerala. The goal of this center is to scientifically test and validate Ayurvedic products to meet international standards. This initiative is part of the celebrations for CSIR-NIIST’s 50th anniversary and will be launched by Union Minister for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh.
Purpose and Goals
The main aim is to ensure that Ayurvedic medicines are safe, effective, and meet the quality standards required globally. As more people around the world are using Ayurvedic treatments, it’s important to make sure these products are tested properly.
Research and Development Focus
This research center will use advanced scientific methods to support companies that make Ayurvedic products, especially smaller businesses called MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises). These businesses often lack the resources to do large-scale research or quality testing. With this center’s help, they will be able to improve their products and become more competitive in the growing global wellness market.
What is Kerala’s Role?
Kerala has a long tradition of Ayurveda, and this project aims to make the state a top center for producing high-quality Ayurvedic products. By combining Kerala’s ancient knowledge of Ayurveda with modern science, the state can meet global healthcare needs.
In addition to Ayurveda, the center will also focus on developing performance chemicals and sustainable polymers. This will help boost domestic production in important sectors like optoelectronic devices (used in things like smartphones) and energy technologies.
Conclave and Collaborative Opportunities
There will also be a meeting called “Ayurveda for Today and Tomorrow: Bridging Tradition and Innovation.” Experts will gather to discuss how Ayurveda can remain relevant in today’s world by using scientific validation and working with modern wellness solutions.
