India Digital Agri Conference 2024

The India Digital Agri Conference 2024 was held in New Delhi, co-organized by the Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA) and IIT Ropar TIF – AwaDH. The event aimed to explore how digital technology can change the way farming is done in India, offering farmers new tools to improve their work.

Importance of the Digital Agriculture Mission

Dr. Devesh Chaturvedi, the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, explained the importance of the Digital Agriculture Mission. This mission is all about modernizing agriculture by using technology and data. It helps farmers make better decisions by providing them with real-time information. For example, farmers can get weather updates, advice on the best time to plant or harvest crops, and ways to protect their crops from pests.

Key Objectives of the Conference

The conference focused on several important goals, such as:

Changing Traditional Farming: The goal is to move away from old farming methods and use new, advanced techniques that make farming more efficient.

Encouraging Innovation: The event promoted the use of cutting-edge technology in agriculture to solve common problems faced by farmers.

Collaboration: The conference emphasized the need for farmers, technology developers, and researchers to work together to find the best solutions for modern farming challenges.

Sustainable Practices and Climate Resilience

A big topic of discussion was how to make farming more sustainable and climate-resilient using digital tools. Sustainable farming means growing crops in a way that doesn’t harm the environment and can be maintained for a long time. Climate resilience focuses on preparing farmers to deal with the effects of climate change, such as unpredictable weather or droughts, using smart farming techniques.

Policy Dialogue and Collaboration

The event also created a space for government officials, researchers, and industry experts to talk about how policies can support the integration of technology in farming. These discussions are important because they help ensure that technology is used effectively and benefits all farmers.

Market Linkages via Digital Platforms

Another focus of the conference was on improving market access for farmers through digital platforms. These platforms can help farmers sell their products directly to buyers, cutting out middlemen and ensuring they get a better price for their produce. This can significantly improve the incomes of smallholder farmers.

Future Strategies for Agri-tech

The conference helped shape future strategies to make India a leader in Agri-tech—the use of technology in agriculture. By tackling current challenges in farming and promoting partnerships between different sectors, India aims to achieve sustainable growth in agriculture and improve the livelihoods of its farmers.
