President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the 8 day long Bhartiya Kala Mahotsav on 28 September 2024 in Secunderabad, Telangana, focusing on the North-Eastern states. The festival runs from 29 September to 6 October 2024, showcasing the art, culture, crafts, and culinary diversity of the North-East. Over 300 artists and artisans from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura are participating. The event promotes the region’s contribution to India’s cultural heritage, fostering social harmony and inclusive development. It is organized by the Ministry for Development of the North Eastern Region and the Ministry of Culture.

NASA scientists suggest China’s Three Gorges Dam may affect Earth’s rotation due to shifting massive amounts of water.
Located on the Yangtze River in Hubei Province, it’s the world’s largest hydroelectric power station. The dam, completed in 2012, is 2,335 meters long and 185 meters high. Its reservoir holds 40 cubic kilometers of water, generating up to 22,500 megawatts of electricity. It uses water from the Qutangxia, Wuxia, and Xilingxia gorges to spin turbines. The dam also boosts shipping capacity and helps reduce flood risks downstream.

Alexander Dunn won the 2024 SASTRA Ramanujan Prize. The prize was instituted in 2005 by SASTRA University in Tamil Nadu.
It is awarded annually on Ramanujan’s birth anniversary, December 22, to mathematicians under 32. The age limit honors Ramanujan’s achievements during his short life. The award includes a citation and a cash prize of $10,000. The prize has gained international recognition, with past recipients including Manjul Bhargava and Akshay Venkatesh.

Researchers from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics discovered an interaction between a radio jet from an Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN) and the surrounding interstellar medium in a dwarf galaxy, NGC 4395. This groundbreaking finding, observed at a distance of about 14 million light years, challenges previous beliefs that only large galaxies host AGNs. The study utilized data from various telescopes, including Hubble and Chandra, to explore this phenomenon, enhancing our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution.
