The Swachhata Hi Seva—2024 campaign ran from 17 September to 2 October 2024. The theme for 2024 was ‘Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata’. The campaign aims to raise awareness and increase public participation in cleanliness activities.
It will focus on large-scale cleanliness drives targeting challenging and neglected waste areas across the nation.
It also acknowledge and honour the contributions of sanitation workers. President Droupadi Murmu attended the Safai Mitra Sammelan in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on 19 September 2024. The Safai Mitra Sammelan was organised as part of the campaign’s fortnightly activities initiated by the Indian government.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II appointed Jaffer Hassan as the new Prime Minister, replacing Bishar Khasawane. Hassan was instructed to support the Palestinians. He will focus on reducing the economic impact of the Gaza War. Hassan will also address the decline in tourism, a vital sector for Jordan’s economy. Jordan is located in the Middle East, between Asia, Africa, and Europe. It’s bordered by Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Israel, and the West Bank of Palestine.

The Union Cabinet of India approved the Venus Orbiter Mission (VOM) to study Venus. The mission aims to explore Venus’s surface, subsurface, and atmosphere, and understand the Sun’s influence on it. It will help uncover why Venus, once similar to Earth, became uninhabitable. The mission will address key scientific questions and provide valuable insights into the evolution of both Venus and Earth. ISRO will develop and launch the spacecraft, with a planned launch window in March 2028. The project cost is Rs. 1236 crore, with Rs. 824 crore allocated for the spacecraft and related elements.

World Food India 2024 was held from September 19 to 22 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. More than 90 countries, 26 Indian states and union territories, and 18 central ministries participated in the event. It showcased innovations, technology, and sustainability in food processing and highlighted India’s growing role in the global food sector. Government initiatives and future plans for food processing development were featured.

The Pench Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh is facing habitat stress due to an overpopulation of spotted deer, leading to relocation efforts to restore ecosystem balance. The spotted deer, also known as Chital, is the most common deer species in Indian forests. Its scientific name is Axis axis. It is native to the Indian subcontinent. It is widely found across Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and a small group in Pakistan.
