A two-day national symposium, Exercise AIKYA, was held by the National Disaster Management Authority and the Army Southern Command in Chennai. It aimed to improve disaster preparedness and foster collaboration among key stakeholders. The event included simulations, technology discussions, and expert insights on disaster management roles. Participants included representatives from various sectors like railways, transport, health, and environment, along with disaster authorities and the Indian army. Officials from IMD, remote sensing centers, and the Central Water Commission also attended. Contemporary issues like tsunamis, floods, and forest fires were reviewed, focusing on prevention, knowledge exchange, and capacity building.

The Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways appointed Manu Bhaker, a double Olympic medalist shooter, as its Brand Ambassador. This was announced by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal during an event in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on 17 September 2024. The event, called the 4th Harnessing of the Nari Shakti for the Development of the Nation, aimed to honor women achievers. It was jointly organized by the Chennai Port Authority and the Kamarajar Port Authority. The event took place at the International Cruise Terminal of the Chennai Port.

On 17 September 2024, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) elected Atishi Marlena as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. This followed the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal, who stepped down after facing corruption charges in the Delhi Liquor Excise case. Kejriwal, a three-time Chief Minister, tendered his resignation to Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena after being granted bail. Atishi Marlena, MLA from Kalkaji, becomes the third woman and eighth person to serve as Delhi’s Chief Minister.
Delhi’s Legislative Assembly term ends on 11 February 2025, with AAP holding 62 seats from the 2020 election.

The Indian men’s hockey team, led by Harmanpreet Singh, won the Men’s Asian Hockey Champions Trophy for a record fifth time on 17 September 2024. India defeated China 1-0 in the final held at Moqi Hockey Training Base, China, with Jugraj Singh scoring the winning goal in the 51st minute. India had won the trophy previously in 2011, 2016, 2018, and 2023. India remained unbeaten in the tournament, defeating China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, and Pakistan. China reached their first-ever final, while Pakistan secured 3rd place after defeating South Korea. Craig Fulton is the Indian team’s coach.

The 2nd NADA India Inclusion Conclave took place in New Delhi on September 18, 2024, following the first conclave held in December 2022. It was held alongside international meetings under the UNESCO anti-doping convention on September 17-18. Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Raksha Nikhil Khadse attended the inauguration. Organised by NADA under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the conclave aims to raise anti-doping awareness among para-athletes. India had the highest doping cases in 2022, and a WADA report from January 2024 ranked India second in doping cases by minors, after Russia.
